Clothing Giveaway Brings Hope and Dignity
Each season, we gather your generous clothing donations and dedicate a special day to share them with our community. Our clothing donation room in the Orange House allows us to regularly provide clothing to those in need.
On a beautiful June afternoon, we set up tables in the backyard, inviting guests to select what they needed—t-shirts, shorts, stockings, underwear, sandals, and other essential summer items. Empowering our guests to choose restores a sense of dignity for those who arrive with very little.
The giving spirit at the heart of our mission thrives because of your ongoing support. Whenever we request clothing or other donations, you respond generously, making a real difference for the vulnerable individuals in Ames who depend on this help. Our guests are deeply grateful, and so are we. Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
2026 Fall Fundraiser
Mark your calendars for October 18th at The Rustic Rose Barn in Roland! We’re busy planning an unforgettable evening and will share a detailed agenda in the August newsletter. This year’s theme, Flannel and Friends, celebrates the warmth of community on an expected brisk fall night. Picture flannel shirts, comfy sweatshirts, and jeans in a rustic barn, an ideal setting for an Iowa autumn gathering. Once again, we will have Babe’s Steakhouse in Radcliffe, serving their delicious meal!
We will be hosting both silent and live auctions once again. If you have items or services to contribute, please reach out at director@amesromerohouse.org. Our community is strengthened by your generosity, and your support in gathering auction items makes all the difference. We are expecting some really good items for both auctions!

Serving the Least Among Us
Ames Romero House began in late 2020, serving meals in the backyard at 709 Clark. From these humble beginnings, our mission flourished through the community’s compassion and dedication to standing alongside those in need. Over time, we shaped a vision rooted in Dorothy Day’s radical hospitality, opening our doors to everyone, regardless of circumstance, and nurturing a home grounded in acceptance, kindness, and true solidarity.
Ames Romero House serves nearly 40 guests daily by providing meals, laundry facilities, showers, resource connections, and a welcoming space where individuals can find community, dignity, and hope….
