Our Board is comprised of local Catholic leaders with expertise in governance, finance, and operational matters related to our organization.

Mark Hanson

Board President

BIO

Mark has lived in Ames for all but seven years of his life. He and his wife are parishioners of St. Cecilia Church in Ames. Mark is dedicated to building a stronger, more inclusive community for everyone.

He has successfully built a business in Ames and understands what it takes to create a strong organization.

Sarah Thomas

Board Member

BIO

Sarah has been involved in our ministry since its inception. She is a wife and mother of six children, and a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Nevada. Sarah provides expertise in mental health counseling and helps guide strategic direction, process improvement, and program implementation. Her input on
our Policies and Procedures manual has been essential to our success.

Fr. Don Czapla

Board Member

BIO

Father Don is the Pastor at St. Cecilia Church in Ames. He provides strengths in finance, strategy, and spiritual guidance, working to unite our Catholic community to assist those struggling to find adequate food and shelter. He recently led the successful completion of the beautifully remodeled St. Cecilia
Church and is dedicated to raising awareness about ARH among his parishioners.

Glenn Sibbel

Glenn is a former schoolteacher who dedicated many years to educating young students and helping them grow into successful individuals. He and his wife, Pam, are parishioners at St. Thomas Aquinas and are generous members of our community. Glenn’s insights into serving the marginalized have led to several improvements in our mission.

Mary Jo Phiefer Wulf

Mary Jo has years of experience in mental health from her work with Catholic Charities. Now retired, she is committed to bringing our local community into ARH, helping them grow spiritually, and addressing the increasing needs of the marginalized in Ames through our mission. She is a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas.

Jim Kurtenbach

Jim lives in Nevada with his wife, Annmarie, who also serves on our Accounting team. Jim is a Deacon at St. Patrick’s Church in Nevada and
has extensive experience in all facets of our organization, including governance, finance, and strategy. He currently serves as an advisor and board member for several companies.

Susan Hurd

Board Member

BIO

Susan is the mother of eight children. Along with her late husband, Scott, she raised their children to embrace their faith by helping others. Susan teaches a parenting class that has benefited many families in our area in raising their children in the Catholic faith. She is a parishioner at Saints Peter & Paul Church in Gilbert and believes it is important to share the gifts of faith, family and
community.
